The Chainsmokers' 'Closer' Rules Hot 100, Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall's 'Juju' Jumps to Top 10

   The Chainsmokers control the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Nov. 12) for an 11th week with "Closer," featuring Halsey, rewriting the mark for the longest domination for a song in 2016. Plus, Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall's "Juju on That Beat (TZ Anthem)" surges 13-9.

  Here on Halloween, as we do every Monday when the chart is compiled, let's treat ourselves to a rundown of all the ear candy in the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends sales, airplay and streaming data. Highlights of the Hot 100 post on Billboard.com each Monday, with all charts updated each Tuesday.

  With its 11th week atop the Hot 100, "Closer," released on Disruptor/Columbia Records, passes Drake's "One Dance," featuring WizKid and Kyla, for the most weeks at No. 1 for a song in 2016; "Dance" dominated for 10 weeks in May through July. "Closer" links the longest command since Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again," featuring Charlie Puth, led for 12 weeks in April-July 2015. (Including "Closer," only 21 No. 1s -- of 1,057 total, over the Hot 100's 58-year history -- have ruled for at least 11 weeks.)
  "Closer" remains the top-selling, most-streamed and most-heard radio song in the U.S. It leads the Digital Song Sales chart for a 12th week (84,000 downloads sold, down 14 percent, in the week ending Oct. 27, according to Nielsen Music); Streaming Songs for an 11th week (31.9 million U.S. streams, down 1 percent); and Radio Songs for a fifth frame (155 million in airplay audience, up 2 percent, in the week ending Oct. 30). Notably, despite its overall streaming decline, "Closer" gains by 8 percent to 16.2 million U.S.        YouTube views following the Oct. 24 premiere of its official video.
Impressively, "Closer" commands the Hot 100 and all three of its main component charts (Digital Song Sales, Streaming Songs and Radio Songs) simultaneously for a fifth week; only Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars, led all the surveys at the same time for more weeks (nine, in 2015). "Closer" additionally tops Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for an 11th week.
  The Weeknd's "Starboy," featuring Daft Punk, ranks at its No. 2 high on the Hot 100 for a fourth week. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (24.8 million, down 3 percent); lifts 3-2 on Digital Song Sales (74,000, down 11 percent) and climbs 4-3 on Radio Songs (123 million, up 8 percent). And, after 11 weeks on atop the audio subscription services-based On-Demand Songs streaming chart for "Closer," "Starboy" takes over the ranking with a 2-1 rise (153 million on-demand clicks, although down 6 percent). The Weeknd earns his second On-Demand Songs No. 1, following "Can't Feel My Face" (seven weeks, 2015). "Starboy" additionally tops the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a fifth week. The song is the lead single from The Weeknd's album of the same name, due Nov. 25.
  Twenty One Pilots' "Heathens" is steady at No. 3 on the Hot 100 after logging four weeks at its No. 2 peak. It holds at No. 2 on Radio Songs (141 million, up 4 percent); pushes 4-3 on Digital Song Sales (61,000, down 12 percent); and drops 4-5 on Streaming Songs (but stays essentially even from the week before with 17.9 million). It tallies a 12th week at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart.
DJ Snake's "Let Me Love You," featuring Justin Bieber, is stationary on the Hot 100 at its No. 4 peak, while D.R.A.M.'s breakthrough hit "Broccoli," featuring Lil Yachty, likewise stays at its No. 5 high. "Broccoli" tops the Hot Rap Songs chart for an eighth week.
  Bruno Mars' "24K Magic" places at No. 6 for a second week on the Hot 100 after debuting at No. 5 two weeks ago. It makes its greatest gains in airplay, rising 8-7 on Radio Songs (96 million, up 12 percent).
Ariana Grande's "Side to Side," featuring Nicki Minaj, rises 8-7 on the Hot 100, becoming the highest-charting hit from Grande's album Dangerous Woman; the title track lead single reached No. 8 in June. She scores her highest rank since stand-alone song "Focus" debuted and peaked at No. 7 on Nov. 21, 2015. Meanwhile, Minaj earns her highest spot in nearly two years, since Nov. 22, 2014, when she ranked at No. 5 after peaking at No. 3 with "Bang Bang," with Grande and Jessie J.
  Major Lazer's "Cold Water," featuring Bieber and MO, descends 7-8 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 2.Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall's "Juju on That Beat (TZ Anthem)" jumps into the Hot 100's top 10 (13-9) as the chart's top Streaming Gainer, powered heavily by its 5-4 rebound on Streaming Songs  (19.4 million, up 23 percent). On Digital Song Sales, the track dips 10-12 but gains by 8 percent to 41,000 sold.
Similar to Silento's No. 3 Hot 100 hit "Watch Me" and iLoveMemphis' No. 15-peaking "Hit the Quan" (both in 2015), "Juju" has thrived on the strength of homemade dance videos. "People keep finding it and engaging with ['Juju']," says Jeff Vaughn, senior director of A&R at Artist Partners Group (APG), a joint venture with Atlantic Records, where the duo is now signed. "Shaq[uille O'Neal] just did the challenge [on Oct. 20]."
Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, gnash's "I Hate U I Love U," featuring Olivia O'Brien, returns to its No. 10 peak (which it first reached three weeks ago). It continues to scale Radio Songs, where it lifts 17-16 (61 million, up 1 percent).
  Beyond the Hot 100's top bracket, Hailee Steinfeld and Grey's "Starving, featuring Zedd, zooms 18-14, hitting a new high, while two songs enter the top 20: Rae Sremmurd's "Black Beatles," featuring Gucci Mane (22-16), and Sia's "The Greatest," featuring Kendrick Lamar (25-19).
Drake boasts two of the top three debuts on the Hot 100: "Fake Love" (No. 24) and "Sneakin'," featuring 21 Savage (No. 38); in between, Pentatonix's "Hallelujah" bows at No. 32. Meanwhile, as Lady Gaga's Joanne opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the set's "Million Reasons" re-enters the Hot 100 at No. 57, a new peak; "A-YO" debuts at No. 66; and the album's No. 15-peaking lead single "Perfect Illusion" returns at No. 78.

The Game Takes Listeners Back to '1992' on New Album: Listen

   The Documentary 2  (which hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200) last year, from announcing the new mobile app game Block Wars and dropping a soundtrack album of the same name, to exchanging diss tracks with Meek Mill in their on-going feud. Back with his newest studio album --1992, which he released on Fri. (Oct. 14) -- The Game delivers a 13-track experience that uncovers the highs and lows of the Compton MC's life during that year.
The Game has kept quite the busy schedule since releasing
    The cover art for the album shows a young man in a tug-of-war battle, with men on one side dressed in blue, and the other side dressed in red, a battle The Game faced during his younger days growing up in the city of Compton. "Ask yourself: What color is the flag?", a voice says in the beginning of "True Colors/It's On." "Think about it! We picked red and blue. What's left? White. Damn right, n---a. We killing each other, homie."
    The album only hosts one feature, from Jeremih, on the bonus track "All Eyez". 1992 also reveals The Wu-Tang Clan as an early influence on The Game ("I Grew Up On Wu-Tang"), and references the 2Pac-starring '92 crime film Juice, which followed a group of Harlem teens growing up around violence, and the daily struggles they face -- an apparent theme on The Game's latest LP.

Madonna has been named Billboard's 2016 Woman of the Year

    Queen of Pop Madonna Louise Ciccone has been named Billboard's 2016 Woman of the Year. According to Janice Min, the president and chief creative officer of The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group,

Those who stole from Nigeria recruited militants in the Niger Delta to fight us- Pres Buhari says

President Buhari today said those who stole Nigeria dry are angry with his government and so have recruited the services of militants in the Niger Delta to fight his government. He said this while addressing a group of Nigerians professionals residing in the US.

"We got into trouble as a country, because we did not save for the rainy day. For example, between 1999 and 2015, when we produced an average of 2.1 million barrels of oil per day, and oil prices stood at an average of $100 per barrel, we did not save, neither did we develop infrastructure. Suddenly, when we came in 2015, oil prices fell to about 30 dollars per barrel. I asked; where are the savings? There were none.
Where are the railways? The roads? Power? None. I further asked; what did we do with billions of dollars that we made over the years? They said we bought food. Food with billions of dollars? I did not believe, and still do not believe. In most parts of Nigeria, we eat what we grow. People in the South eat tubers, those in the North eat grains, which they plant, and those constitute over 60 per cent of what we eat. So, where did the billions of dollars go? We did a lot of damage to ourselves by not developing infrastructure when we had the money. Talking of our military, they earned respect serving in places like Burma, Zaire, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra-Leone, and then, suddenly, that same military could no longer secure 14 out of 774 local governments in the country. Insurgents had seized them, calling them some sort of caliphate, and planting their flags there; till we came, and scattered them. We raised the morale of our military, changed the leadership, re-equipped and retrained them; USA, Britain, and some other countries helped us, and today, the pride of our military is restored"he said

On Boko Haram, he said

"They ran riot, killing innocent people in churches, mosques, markets, schools, motor parks, and so on. And they would then shout Allahu Akbar. But if they truly knew Allah, they would not do such evil. Neither Islam, nor any other religion I know of, advocates hurting the innocent. But they shed innocent blood, killed people in their thousands. Now, we have dealt with that insurgency, and subverted their recruitment base. Those who stole Nigeria dry are not happy. They recruited the militants against us in the Niger Delta, and began to sabotage oil infrastructure. We lose millions of barrels per day, at a time when every dollar we can earn, counts. It is a disgrace that a minimum of 27 states, out of 36 that we have in Nigeria, can't pay salaries. But I prayed so hard for God to make me President. I ran in 2003, 2007, 2011, and in 2015, He did. And see what I met on ground. But I can't complain, since I prayed for the job. In the military, I rose from 2nd Lieutenant to Major-General. I was military governor in 1975 over a state that is now six states. I was head of state, got detained for three years, and headed the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), which had N53 billion of that time in Nigerian banks. God has been very good to me, so I can't complain. If I feel hurt by anybody, I ask God to help me forgive. He has done so much for me. After 16 years of a different party in government, no party will come and have things easy. It's human. We need quality hands to run Nigeria, and we will utilize them. I will like to welcome you home when it's time. But I'll like you to be ready."he said.

The Game Apologizes For Dragging Nicki Minaj Into Meek Mill Beef

 New York, NY – The Game admits that mentioning Nicki Minaj’s name in his brutal diss track “92 Bars” aimed at her boyfriend Meek Mill and his scandalous photoshopped picture of the two was in poor taste but he didn’t mean any disrespect.

“Nicki should just stay out of it,” The Game told The Breakfast Club earlier today, Friday (September 23). “She’s in her lane. She’s doing her thing, she’s an amazing artist. I’ve got love and respect for her. I’m sorry I had to drag her into this, and it was a minimal drag, but she wasn’t disrespected at all I went and I did what I had to do. It looked like a photo shoot or a video shoot, it don’t look like us in a hotel room.”
At the height of the beef, The Game posted a still from Nicki’s 2014 video “Pills & Potions” that gave off the impression he and Nicki were an item as he had her arms wrapped around his muscular arms.

He also offered up his dickprint to size up The Pinkprint rapper in the song.
“Nicki won’t get no sleep, I’m coming through at 4 a.m,” he raps in one verse, while boldly spitting “And I’ve been wanting to give Nicki this pool stick,” in another.
Chuck went on to be clear there was no intended malice because who doesn’t want to smash Nicki Minaj?

Madam cash has girls that does her dirty job and she pays them. I saw a woman I know and she was looking so haggard, I enquired and learnt, that two months ago, her brother's son that's staying with her was stolen, on their street. I got home and was trying to caution a neighbor that has kids just like me and the pix above was shown to me. So many questions kept popping into my head.
Instead of this madam Cash, stealing people's kids why didn't she sell hers., or better still, gather girls that born and want to sell. Why put a fellow mother like her into an emotional torture. The worst part is, the pastor, said that out of the 13 kids they brought that 3 have died. The little kids in the other pix are all stolen children. 26-year-old Eritrean Merhawit Tesfamariam gave birth prematurely to twins on board a rickety boat off the Libyan coast in late August. Her twins, Hiyap (1.6 kilos) and Evenezer (1.3 kilos) are currently in incubators in Palermo's Cervello Hospital, Italy.

CNN's Ben Wedeman spent the day with Merhawit in the hospital, trying to learn her story, how she escaped from Eritrea to Libya and managed to get to Italy.

So far this year, 3,165 migrants and refugees have died attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe, often in overcrowded boats and rafts. More than 110,000 others have arrived in Italy, where another 145,000 wait in reception centers for their statuses to be decided upon. According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 275,000 people are waiting in Libya to attempt the perilous journey.

Merhawit, like so many other Eritreans, she fled her country to escape the open-ended mandatory military service that made life in the small East African country unbearable. She served in the military for three years working as a clerk. Fed up, she deserted, but was caught and sentenced to five months in prison. After her release last year, she and her husband paid human traffickers 50,000 nakfa, about $3,300, to be smuggled across the border into Sudan.

Merhawit and her husband managed to scrape together enough funds, around $5,000, for her to continue the journey to Libya, but not enough for him to join. He stayed behind in Khartoum, and once more with the dubious assistance of human traffickers, the expectant mother went to Tripoli. There, Merhawit recounted, she stayed for five months in a walled compound, sleeping on the floor of what sounded, according to her description, like a warehouse.

"The water was dirty, dirty," she said.

The only food she and other migrants and refugees there were ever given was pasta. She never saw a doctor or take medicine. Eventually, she and the others were herded onto a bus and driven to the Libyan coast, where they boarded a boat. They had no food or water. Despite being eight months pregnant, Merhawit assured me she felt no discomfort. But after just two days at sea, labor set in. She was in pain, and her cries drove many of the passengers in the flimsy vessel as far away as they could get.

"I was in such pain I wasn't embarrassed by what was happening to me," she said. Merhawit recalls that women on the boat were supportive through her agony, and helped her deliver her twin boys.

 After they were born, however, she was gripped by fear that the infants would die as they drifted aimlessly on the Mediterranean. "I was worried the twins wouldn't survive, that we wouldn't be rescued."

Rescue did arrive, however, when their boat was spotted by the crew of Dignity 1, a vessel operated by Medecins Sans Frontiere (Doctors Without Borders). Merwahit and the twins were soon transferred to the Italian Navy, which helicoptered them to Palermo. The infants were suffering from malnutrition, dehydration and hypothermia, according to doctors at the hospital in Palermo. Merhawit was also suffering from anemia. Their rescue, and rapid recovery since then is nothing short of miraculous, doctors say.

"If they had been on the boat much longer," Dr. Giorgio Sulliotti said, "they would have suffered much more than they did. Merhawit was "very lucky. It was a premature delivery of twins in a crowded boat in the Mediterranean. Any complication could have been grave, with the risk of death for both the mother and the twins. It's the first time I've seen a premature delivery with such a rapid recovery by both the mother and the babies," said Perino.

Once the twins are healthy enough, she will be released from the hospital to a reception center. There she will have to either apply for asylum or seek refuge in another country. She told me she wants to be reunited with her husband as soon as possible -- how, she doesn't know. Then she would like to move to the United Kingdom or, if she can, to the United States, where she says she has relatives.

APC’s lack of vision, incompetence and poor handling of Economy caused recession, not Dr. Jonathan, says the PDP

Our attention has once again been drawn to the recent inconsiderate statement attributed to the Governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru and similar comments from people of like minds to the effect that the previous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Administration was responsible for the current Economic Recession.

It is really disappointing that a notable personality as highly placed as a State Governor could be drawn into making idle and pedestrian claims without the benefit of facts. It is either he does not realize the obligation of speaking responsibly in that position or he is grossly ill-informed; in which case, we could only try to put the facts before him, and hoping he would recognize them.

In the first place, this blame is misplaced because our elementary understanding of economics teaches us that the major cause of recession is inflation and poor handling of the economy given that the higher the rate of inflation, the more impoverished people become, industrial production and GDP decline resulting in massive job losses. Perhaps we should quote those who should know and tell Governor Badaru that wrong economic policies of the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led Government caused the current stagnation and recession in the Country.

Larry Ettah, President of the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association (NECA) did not mince words when he said few days ago that, “It is quite evident that the lack of clarity about the economic agenda of the current government contributed to the current economic stagnation and recession.” He said further, “In recent times at our AGMs, we have variously described our operating environment as challenging, unpredictable, unstable and energy sapping. These words are of course, true and descriptive of what our members have experienced in keeping their businesses afloat.”

However beyond that, we make bold to tell Governor Badaru that Jonathan and the People’s Democratic Party Government saw this coming since 2011, and wanted to deregulate the sale of hydrocarbons in 2012, but Badaru and his co-travellers who are now in the All Progressives Congress (APC) frustrated the effort. The former Administration also wanted to encourage more savings in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) and set up the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) but the Badarus of this world who play politics with serious national issues and were state governors at the time took the Federal Government to Court and did everything to frustrate the effort. Thank God some of them are among the ‘best brains’ in the APC Federal Government of today.
 Governor Badaru should know that you can't plant grapes and harvest mangoes. It is no secret that the policies and statements made by key government actors have not been business friendly and Nigerians and foreign business men took their hard currencies out of the Country. When professionals were advising the Government to woo investors, characters like Badaru were busy de-marketing Nigeria all over the world. They should be reminded that great leaders take over countries either in recession or war and still succeed in turning them around; quite unlike the prevailing situation where a Ruling Party plunges the Economy into an avoidable recession, only to turn round and begin to whine helplessly like a baby.

World history is full of many examples where genuine leaders take over countries whose economies are stagnated and move them to positive growth. Like Franklin D. Roosevelt, the President who ruled the United States from a wheel chair during the time of unprecedented economic depression and total war, introduced an ambitious programme for  relief, recovery and reform called “the Great Deal”, which began to yield considerable dividends in weeks and Americans are the better for it today.

In his first hundred days in office in 1933, Roosevelt was reputed to have renewed the American spirit and optimism by immediately addressing the effects of the depression. Through the Great Deal, he introduced a variety of programmes targeted at getting Americans back to work, provide relief for the vulnerable, get industry and agriculture back on their feet, and engender accelerated recovery and economic growth. Or, how about the recent change of government in the United Kingdom where the new Prime Minister, Theresa May formed her Cabinet within hours to ensure that the doubts arising from the uncertainty of Brexit Vote do not get the better of her citizens?

Badaru and those who still think like him should tell Nigerians the character of the economic team in place that has been managing the Nation's economy since 29th of May 2015. This ‘economic management policy’ of unhealthy propaganda and blaming the previous administration ceaselessly, will not take us anywhere.
 Will Badaru and his Party men continue to blame Jonathan and the PDP ‘till 2019 and use Jonathan for the 2019 campaign instead of showing their scorecard? The good thing is that Nigerians who were being hoodwinked at first, are now seeing through the deception of this
unending blame game. It is on record that one APC governor after his inauguration for his second tenure publicly announced that he inherited an empty treasury. He was quickly reminded that he couldn't have inherited empty treasury from himself. This unfortunately, is the face of the comedy and farce that now characterize governors and governance in this Country. Any dispassionate assessment of economic performance under Jonathan would obviously frown at Governor Badaru’s type of impulsive conclusion without recourse to the strong macroeconomic fundamentals recorded under Jonathan, which laid the foundation for meaningful growth.

In particular, despite interfering global downturn, the overall real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate stood at an average of 5%, a growth that was largely driven by the non-oil sector in line with the success of the diversification effort of the Administration. There is no doubt that there was obvious improvement in inflation pressure which stood at a single digit and provided the stability and guarantees needed for the economy to remain stable. It actually borders on ignorance to claim that no cost cutting measures were introduced when the Jonathan Administration in one sector was able to reduce its food import bill from well over N1t to N684.7b as at December 2013 and subsequently cut it further down with improvements in local food production. Where was the Governor when Jonathan’s Administration embarked on comprehensive reforms in different sectors towards infrastructural renewal, promotion of sustainable development and the growth of the Nation’s economy to become the largest in Africa?

Did he ever wonder why despite the “signals towards end of 2013 to 2014”, as rightly identified by the Governor to be the beginning of hard times, the economy remained stable with single digit inflation during those periods?
 Let Gov. Badaru be reminded that it was because of the milestones recorded in the local production of rice and other staple food that ensured robust local supply and remarkable progression which limited the demand for scarce foreign exchange needed for importation. We would be disappointed if the Governor was oblivious of what was happening around him in the area of agricultural revolution; especially, as farmers from his part of the Country openly expressed their support and gains from these initiatives. Again, when he said that “the past leaders did nothing to stop a looming recession”, we have no choice but rise to put the facts right. Less we forget when the Senate approved $52 benchmark for the Administration’s last Budget at a time Oil was selling for about $60 and crashing further, the Government did not just sit down and watch events unfold. Under the leadership of the Finance Ministry, the Administration developed a scenario-based fiscal template with definite responses designed to track and tackle varying challenges in the volatility regime.

We should also remind Badaru that the recent visit of the Facebook Founder, Mark Zukerberg to the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, Lagos State, wouldn’t have happened if Jonathan did not have the Vision to set up the two ICT incubation centers in Lagos and Calabar. The former President built the Centers in support of youth entrepreneurship, just as he did with other successful youth-focused programmes like the Youth Enterprise with Innovation (YOUWIN) and the Nagropreneur Initiative that turned agriculture into an attractive industry for youths.

Need we remind the Governor that all these were possible because of the performance contract model Jonathan developed for his ministers where key performance indicators (KPI) were jointly agreed and signed against which each minister’s measurable effectiveness was benchmarked?

In view of the above submissions, it is clear that the current economic recession in the Country was not caused by previous PDP's Administration or leaders but due to the poor management of Nigeria's economy, lack of vision and incompetence of the present APC's led Federal Government that drove Nigerians into this avoidable life threatening quagmire.

Finally, we want to therefore advise the Government of the day to stop the blame game and look inward towards resolving the recession by inviting economic experts irrespective of their political leaning to join hands with the Administration at these trying times.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Africa tour tracks tech’s growing interests on the continent

After a surprise Nigeria visit to meet with techies in Lagos, Mark Zuckerberg took his Africa tour to Kenya this Thursday. There the Facebook CEO visited the iHub innovation space, reviewed the BRCK mobile Wi-Fi device, had lunch with Kenyan ICT Cabinet Secretary Joseph Mucheru, and met with tech leaders Juliana Rotich and Erik Hersman.
Like the Lagos expedition, the trip was unannounced. “Originally, we knew that Facebook’s Ime Archibong was coming in,” said Hersman (a co-founder of iHub), “but we didn’t know about Mark’s visit until the last minute.” Archibong is Facebook’s Strategic Partnerships Director.
Though no formal business commitments are planned on Zuckerberg’s first Kenya visit (something Facebook reps confirmed to TechCrunch), Hersman believes it is likely a precursor.

“Look, these meetings in Nigeria and Kenya, it’s largely PR for everybody right now,” he said. “However, from the interactions I saw…between Facebook’s team and different people within the tech community, I think there’s going to be some real stuff happening soon.”
While Zuckberg’s Nigeria visit was less anticipated—given the country only recently registered in global tech news—his dropping in on Kenya is less of a surprise.
The East African nation of 44 million has become the continent’s unofficial tech capital, dubbed “Silicon Savannah” for its advances in digital finance, tech incubators, and local IT innovations such as BRCK and the Ushahidi crowdsourcing platform.
Local telco Safaricom’s M-Pesa mobile money product is globally recognized. The company has used its mobile infrastructure to innovate a number of digital products including solar electricity (M-Kopa), online TV, and the recent launch of its M-Pesa integrated ride-hail app (Little), an Uber competitor.
The Kenyan government, which established an ICT authority, is one of the continent’s more proactive in supporting its tech ecosystem. And iHub helped spur Africa’s tech incubator movement, which now includes over 300 innovation spaces across the continent, according to a recent GSMA survey.

From a tech perspective, Zuckberberg’s decision to visit Nairobi is relatively straight forward. Two initiatives he focused on were the BRCK venture and digital prototype startup Gearbox, both outgrowths of the iHub infrastructure Erik Hersman and Juliana Rotich established in 2010. BRCK developed in response to local IT challenges of poor net connectivity and electricity.
The solar powered BRCK Wi-Fi product (about the size of an actual brick) provides device charging capabilities, 3g and 4g internet for up to 20 connections, and now ships to over 60 countries. “He got a demo of the next generation BRCK device, and was pretty intrigued by our Kio devices,” said Hersman, referring to BRCK’s educational tablet for primary school students.
Zuckerberg also reviewed the Gearbox supported Strauss solar energy panel and PayGo Energy home cooking product. “He was really interested in the integration of M-Pesa into other services,” said Hersman, noting the PayGo product allows Kenyans to finance the kit using mobile phones and M-Pesa mobile payments.

Zuckerberg’s Nigeria and Kenya trips coincide with Facebook’s expanding Africa presence and the continent’s growing digital profile. Facebook has 84 million users in Sub-Saharan Africa, 17 million in Nigeria, 14 million in South Africa, and 5.7 million in Kenya, according to spokesperson Sally Aldous.
As previously reported, a particular Facebook Africa play will be tapping the online advertising market that’s rising with the continent’s shift to digital commerce, expected to reach $75 billion by 2025.
Facebook opened its first Africa office in South Africa in 2015, appointing Ogilvy and Mather advertising executive Nunu Ntshingila as Head of Africa. In Kenya, the company has provided financial support to iHub events and workshops (Erik Hersman confirmed).
Kenya is also one of Facebook’s Internet.org Free Basics countries, a program that allows users on Airtel networks to access limited internet services free on mobile. Facebook’s commitment to connect more Africans to the internet suffered a bit of a setback Thursday when the SpaceX rocket carrying the company’s Amos-6 satellite crashed pre-launch.

As for what to expect from Facebook in Africa after Zuckerberg’s trip, company reps would not provide detail. iHub, Gearbox, and BRCK co-founder Erik Hersman sees possibilities to upgrade Facebook’s connectivity efforts, “Free Basics is growing but it’s still not the open internet,” he said. “There could be an opportunity to open it up around a business model that works.”
Hersman also believes the Facebook CEO’s will also draw more attention to Africa from Silicon Valley. “He could have just visited South Africa, which is what more people would have expected,” he said. “Visiting Nigeria and Kenya sends a message that could get other global tech players off the sidelines. If Facebook is putting so time, interest, and money into these markets other will definitely pay attention.”

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg says the most successful entrepreneurs share 3 traits

 

In a live Q&A in Rome on Monday, Mark Zuckerberg  was asked to name three traits of people who make it to the top.
First and foremost, successful enterpreneurs have a specific vision , the Facebook (FB) co-founder and CEO said. They pinpoint the exact problem that they're trying to solve.

"If you want to build something great, you should focus on what the change is that you want to make in the world," Zuckerberg said. "I see too many entrepreneurs who decide that they want to start a company before they actually know what it is that they want to build. To me, that seems backwards."

Secondly, they surround themselves with other highly successful and motivated people.

"No one does it alone," Zuckerberg said. "When you look at most big things that get done in the world, they're not done by one person, so you're going to need to build a team."
To build the strongest team possible, look for people who excel in the areas where you're weaker or less experienced. "You're going to need people that have complementary skills," he emphasized. "No matter how talented you are, there are just going to be things that you don't bring to the table."
Finally, the entrepreneurs who make it big are persistent. "Nothing ever goes the way you want it to," he said. "People talk about overnight success, and that's not the way it works."
The ones who come out on top are the ones who refuse to give up despite the inevitable trials and tribulations they face throughout the process.

Zuckerberg concluded: "The biggest things that have gotten done in the world tend to be done by people who primarily believe in a mission and are not trying to build a company; by teams, not by individuals; and by people who just don't give up."
