Woman whose son was killed while he was robbing, wants the man who shot him to be charged with a crime

A woman, Temia Hairston, whose son, Michael Grace Jr., 28, robbed a Pizza Hut he used to work at is demanding justice for her son who was killed by an employee of the business.

Hairston said her son had been fired from a series of low-paying, unskilled jobs. He had a 4-year-old child, a pregnant girlfriend and was essentially homeless. Hairston said:

“He had lost everything. He lost his Pizza Hut job. He lost his primary job. And because he lost his jobs, he lost his car also,” Hairston, of Charlotte, told The Washington Post.

She added:

“We were talking about baby Michael and I was like, ‘you got to get it together because the child’s mother is having to take care of him by herself because you’re not working. I need you to get yourself together and get back on your grind.’ ” Hairston said she wasn’t sure if her words sunk in.

“He was nodding,” she said of the Oct. 29 conversation, “but he had a look on his face like he had nothing left to lose.”

A few hours after the talk with his mother, Grace called 2 of his friends, put on a mask and went to the west Charlotte Pizza Hut where he used to work, armed with a gun. Police say he and the two men waited until the business was closed, then burst into the restaurant.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say what happened next is still under investigation:

“Three individuals . . . were in the process of robbing the business when one of the employees fired his own personal handgun at one of the robbery suspects, striking him,” the police statement said.

Grace was shot in the head and died on the floor in the early morning of Oct. 30, his mother said. Police say the gun fell from his hand and was recovered next to his body.

Now Grace's mum is saying she wants justice for her son, whose final act was one of “desperation.” She wants the Pizza Hut employee who killed him to be charged with a crime.

“My son was out doing something wrong … I don’t condone his actions, but he didn’t deserve to die,” she said Monday, while crying. “If you decide to rob someone, then you face a judge.

“If prison was where he was going, then prison is where he should be instead of in the ground.”

Police have not charged the person who shot Grace or released his identity.

According to North Carolina law, a person is allowed to use deadly force in self-defense or defense of another. A person is “justified in the use of deadly force and does not have a duty to retreat in any place” if that force is used to prevent death or bodily harm to himself or another.

However, Pizza Hut employees aren’t allowed to carry guns on company property, according to an employee manual posted online. Their first priority during a crime is to contact the police, according to the manual.

“If you observe a weapon on an individual, other than a uniformed police officer, push the security panic button immediately,” the handbook says.

In the statement about Grace’s killing, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the Pizza Hut franchisee was cooperating with the investigation.

“The security of its staff is of utmost concern,” the statement said. “They are providing support to the team members involved to ensure their health and well-being following this incident. The employee involved in the shooting has been placed on a leave of absence following further review.”

Hairston said she’s going to continue to push the company and the police for more details about her son’s death.

It took 15 years from the time that we were awarded the licence in 1993 till 2008 when we struck the first oil When this event happened, 60 per cent out of our 60 per cent equity in the business, was forcefully taken from us by the government of the day without due process. We had to fight back by going to court to seek redress and it took another 12 years for justice to be served in our favour. In all those years it was my trust in God, my perseverance and the support of my family that got me going,” she said.

   Obasanjo replied Alakija when he was given the microphone to speak at the event. He said

“There is a saying in my part of the world that when a proverb touches you and you failed to reply, then you are a coward. For you to come here and say that, for no cause whatsoever, you were denied what was rightfully yours, is not fair. I do not know you from Adam and there is no reason I would have denied you what rightfully belonged to you. So, you have struggled, and you have struck oil. God bless your heart. My delight is to be able to create Nigerian billionaire and I always say it that my aim, when I was in government was to create 50 Nigerian billionaires. Unfortunately I failed. I created only 25 and Madam, you are one of them” he said.

Nigerian woman who paid man £1,000 to pose as her baby's father to gain British citizenship has been jailed

   Faust Abolore plotted to gain British citizenship by putting 44-year-old Anthony Ezekpo’s name on her son’s birth certificate and a subsequent passport application. However, she was caught when photographs of the child’s real father, Nigerian national Peter Gentry, were posted on Facebook, showing him cradling the boy at a naming ceremony.
    Inner London crown court heard that Abolore got a job as a care home assistant in 2011 with a bogus Portuguese passport, and had twice been turned down for leave to remain in 2013 and 2014.
    Sentencing Abolore and Ezekpo to 18 months each, Judge Mark Bishop said:
    "These sort of offences undermine confidence in the system of immigration control. You, Abolore, were seeking to cheat your way into being allowed to remain in this country. Ezekpo, you agreed to help her in making that possible."
    Abolore, who was living with Mr Gentry in Erith, gave birth at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich on August 6, 2014. Prosecutor Alex Mills said:
    "Ms Abolore entered an agreement with Mr Ezekpo whereby he would pretend to be the father of that child." The pair went to a register office and signed the birth certificate which said Ezekpo was the boy’s father and claimed they lived together in Erith. "There had been a payment of £1,000 which coincided with the visit to the register office," said Mr Mills.
    In November 2014, Abolore applied for leave to remain in the UK, based on the birth of the child. However, the Facebook photos of Mr Gentry undermined their story, and it emerged that Ezekpo lived in the North East. Mr Mills said Abolore’s use of a false passport to get the care assistant job emerged during the police investigation, when detectives found a passport bearing Abolore’s picture but a different name.
    The court heard that Abolore still insists that Ezekpo is the child’s father. Abolore and Ezekpo, of Winlaton, near Gateshead, were found guilty by a jury of conspiracy to breach immigration law and gi.

RRS rescues a woman about to be gang raped at Ogudu-Alapere link bridge, Lagos (photos)

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command on Saturday revealed that they rescued a lady who was dragged into a swamp at Ogudu-Alapere link bridge and was about to be gang raped. She has since been taken to the hospital for treatment of other injuries sustained.

African woman with baby strapped to her back fends off thugs who were about to stab a teenager in London

    Two black mothers, including one with a baby intervened when thugs were about to stab a teenager in a busy shopping street. The niece and her aunt took action when two youths with huge knives chased two other boys through New Cross in south London. The aunt picked up a cafe chair and lunged at one of the knifemen with all her strength, knocking him off balance as he was about to attack one of the boys.

   Witnesses praised the two women, saying they had saved the boy's life. The aftermath was captured by BBC London, who filmed the women telling police what had happened. The niece, still carrying her baby, told officers:

    "I started shouting and the next thing I saw was my auntie, who’d got one of the cafe chairs. She was trying to stop them." Her aunt added: "We just saw it like ‘this is going to be a bloodshed if we don’t get tough’. They had two massive knives. "We just tried to prevent somebody from ending up in the hospital or in the mortuary. And as a mother I didn’t think about anything else, Ijust thought that this needed to be stopped"

    Another witness, Lena Gale told the Standard : "One of the two attackers was carrying the biggest knife I have ever seen, it was huge. I told the driver to pull over and started screaming for people to help. One of the boys being chased tripped and fell over. He looked like he was done for, doubled up on the floor. They were going to kill him. But this woman stepped in and grabbed a cafe chair and hit the boy with the knife as hard as she could. The guy stopped in his tracks and ran off." When officers arrived the scene, the alleged attackers and their victims had fled. The women have been hailed as heroes by online users.

Man Shot, Killed for Not Holding Door Open for Woman at Las Vegas McDonald’s

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed outside of a North Las Vegas McDonald’s, reportedly after getting into an argument with a woman for not holding open the door for her, KSNV reports.
According to the report, Mohammad Robinson got into an argument with a woman who was upset that the door to the McDonald’s was not being held open for her. The woman reportedly went and notified a man she was with about the incident, and that man pulled out a firearm and fatally wounded the 31-year-old father.
“It was a stupid reason honestly, irrelevant. It doesn’t make any sense why would you actually take someone’s life over not opening a door,” Robinson’s 14-year-old daughter Miniya Sampson told the news station. “It’s horrible. I want my dad back and you took him away from me!”
Robinson’s best friend reportedly witnessed the shooting, Sampson said.
Police are looking for the suspect, the station notes, and are hoping that surveillance footage from the McDonald’s will give some leads.

Nine Islamic asylum seekers arrested for drugging and raping a woman in Austria

 Nine men, who are all seeking asylum in Austria travelled to Vienna for New Year’s Eve celebrations where they allegedly drugged a woman and dragged her to a nearby apartment block before brutally raping her. Police were called on January 1 when the woman woke up to discover she had been the victim of a vile sex attack.

The attackers aged between 21 and 47 are alleged to have snatched the woman from Vienna’s central Schwedenplatz and assaulted her in an apartment where two of the suspects lived, between 2am and 6am.
But the arrests were made eight months later following a “protracted and difficult” investigation
 
The arrests were made in Austria after DNA evidence and CCTV footage was used to successfully build a case against the alleged rapists. This comes as Austria’s anti-immigrant Freedom Party desperately attempts to overturn the result of June’s presidential election after a re-run was ordered by a judge when evidence showed “irregularities” in the court.

 A police spokesperson said:

“There is no doubt about the gang rape according to the biological traces. “The investigations were difficult and protracted. On the trail of the suspects, investigators came by DNA material, interviews with witnesses and images from surveillance cameras.”

Police say the woman had been drinking but believes she may have been drugged as she does not remember getting to the apartment. The men have all denied the accusations.

Some Austrians have demanded that the men be “immediately deported” if they are convicted of the rape.
