If Jay Z performing for free in Cleveland on Friday night (Nov. 4)
wasn't a big enough draw for Ohioans and Midwestern road-trippers, he
brought along Big Sean, Chance the Rapper and J. Cole -- oh, and his superstar wife Beyoncé too.
The
concert was in support of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, and
the Democratic nominee for president was also in Cleveland, snapping
pics with Jay and Bey backstage before the show -- and eventually
hitting the stage at the end of the concert.
After an opening set from Jay and mini-sets from Sean, Chance and
Cole, Jay returned to the stage, and moments later, the opening strains
of Bey's Lemonade standout "Formation" played and the rumors were confirmed: Beyoncé was in the building.
"If
you came to slay, say, 'I slay!'" she instructed the crowd to wild
screams, rocking a black-and-white polka-dot pant suit and backed by
dancers in royal-blue pant suits -- a nod to Clinton's fashion of
choice.
"Less than 100 years ago, women did not have the right to
vote," Beyonce said to the crowd after wrapping up "Formation." "Look
how far we've come from having no voice to being on the brink of making
history by electing the first woman president. But we have to vote."
After recalling her excitement about voting for Barack Obama eight
years ago so her nephew could grow up with a black president, she talked
about what voting for Clinton will mean to her own daughter, Blue Ivy.
"Now, we have the opportunity to create more change. I want my daughter
to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and know that her
possibilities are limitless. We have to think about the future of our
daughters, our sons, and vote for someone who cares for them as much as
we do. And that is why, I'm with her."
The set also included
"Freedom," a medley of Destiny's Child's "Independent Women, Pt. 1" and
her solo hit "Girls (Who Run the World)" and a joint performance of
Jay's "Holy Grail," with Bey taking over vocal duties for Justin Timberlake.
