The 1996 Olympic Games winner has praised Samson Siasia's boys for their
feat in Rio and tipped them to get to the final ahead of the Germans
Oparaku was in the Dream Team squad that surprised the world to win the Olympic gold medal in Atlanta, United States, when they beat Argentina 3-2 in the final. The Imo-born former defender told Goal that the 2016 squad has the mental strength and the ability to go all the way.
The former Iwuanyanwu Nationale and Enyimba defender revealed that the way Samson Siasia's team toppled Denmark last Saturday showed that they are not to be written off despite their loss to Colombia in their last group match.
“It is noteworthy that we are through to the semi final. I never doubted them from the outset even when they lost to Colombia last week Wednesday," Oparaku told Goal .
"I want to implore the players not to get carried away by the result because they have a tougher assignment against Germany which they must be prepared for while the coaches too must do their part to make qualification for the final possible,” he said.
Oparaku however cautioned the team against playing to the gallery and overconfidence while imploring the technical crew not to relent in plotting the right strategies that will render the ploy of the Germans powerless so as to secure a place in the final of the competition.
